Each week we will include a fun fact or historic tidbit about our great hometown
Riverside Hospital and the West Boonton Ball Grounds
For years, the site was the terminus of the Town of Boonton Fire Department Annual Labor Day Parade
The official opening day of Riverside Hospital was November 2, 1955.
The site in which the hospital was built was part of the area which was known as the “West Boonton Ball Grounds” where for many years the Town of Boonton Fireman’s annual Labor Day parade ended.
The Ball Grounds was comprised of the area of the Hospital and Bank of America site.
With the building of the hospital, 1954 was the last year the parade held its festivities at this location.

RVA Parking Lot has re-opened
Thanks to everyone for your cooperation in helping us navigate through this major project.
Special thanks to Kenny Kida and the crew at Statewide Striping for striping the lot in time for the opening of soccer season!
Due to the popularity of the parking area at the north-end of RVA Fields, we will be making that a permanent, non-paved parking area for seasonal use.
The lot will now be closed until we install permanent barriers - we are hoping to have that work completed in the next month,

The stair railings are installed and final grading is expected next week.
The basketball courts will be reconstructed to include both basketball and three dedicated pickleball courts.
The park will be closed to all patrons when the contractors are working -your cooperation is greatly appreciated

Land Conservancy Open Space Tour of Township properties on the Flight Path at RVA Fields
L to R: Barbara Davis, Vice President, Programs; Deputy Mayor Bill Klingener; Mayor Brian Honan, Doug Cabana, Township Administrator and Tanvi Sule, Planning Fellow
The Township Committee has partnered with the Land Conservancy to update the Township’s Open Space & Recreation Plan. This plan will provide direction and strengthen ongoing efforts to protect the Township’s natural beauty and enhance recreational opportunities within our community. As stewards of our environment and advocates for outdoor activities, we are pleased to announce this partnership to update to the Township's Open Space & Recreation Plan.
Open space and preserved properties protect the quality of life in our community and serve as a sanctuary for both residents and wildlife. As our Township grows, it is important that we ensure the preservation and thoughtful use of these valued areas.
The Open Space & Recreation Plan, a blueprint that outlines how we maintain and enhance our parks, trails, and natural resources, is receiving a much-needed refresh. This report was last completed in 2005. This update will reflect the evolving needs and desires of our community while also aligning with our long-standing philosophy to preserve the character and quality of life in Boonton Township.
What to Expect:
Our goal is to continue responsible land management for future generations.
This update to our Open Space & Recreation Plan signifies the Township Committee’s commitment to the preservation of our community and the environment. We encourage your participation in the process and look forward to your input. Together, we will shape the future of our open spaces, ensuring they remain a vibrant and an integral part of what makes our Township the wonderful place we call home.

BTPD Issues "School Bus Safety" Reminder
School buses are among one of the safest ways to get children to and from school, but injuries can occur if kids are not careful when getting on and off the school bus. Riding the school bus for the first time is a big step for your child. Help your kids maximize school bus safety by following these tips.
Walk with your young kids to the bus stop and wait with them until it arrives. Make sure drivers can see the kids at your bus stop.
Teach kids to stand at least three giant steps back from the curb as the bus approaches and board the bus one at a time.
Teach kids to wait for the school bus to come to a complete stop before getting off and not to walk behind the bus.
If your child needs to cross the street after exiting the bus, he or she should take five giant steps in front of the bus, make eye contact with the bus driver and cross when the driver indicates it’s safe. Teach kids to look left, right and left again before crossing the street.
Instruct younger kids to use handrails when boarding or exiting the bus. Be careful of straps or drawstrings that could get caught in the door. If your child drops something, they should tell the bus driver and make sure the bus driver is able to see them before they pick it up.
Drivers should follow the speed limit and slow down in school zones and near bus stops. Remember to stay alert and look for kids who may be trying to get to or from the school bus.
Slow down and stop if you’re driving near a school bus that is flashing yellow or red lights. This means the bus is either preparing to stop (yellow) or already stopped (red), and children are getting on or off.
