Each week we will include a fun fact or historic tidbit about our great hometown
1947 USGS Map
In 1947 there were more cows at our three dairy farms (Wayside, Lone Oak and Valley Farms) than residents in the Township.
Our three industries (Radio Frequency Laboratories (RFL), Aircraft Radio and Johanson Manufacturing) played a role the birth of American aviation as well as in the successful war effort in the 1940s.
Much of today's infrastructure didn't exist but our main thoroughfares, Boonton-Butler Rd (Powerville Rd), Rockaway Valley Rd, Valley Rd, Oak Rd, North Main, Boonton Ave, Powerville Rd (Old Denville Rd), Kingsland Rd, Meriden Rd (Farber Hill Rd), Split Rock Rd and Guinea Hill Rd (Hillcrest Rd) were established but only a few were paved. Not until the 1950s did these roads get tar and chip paving.
Some of the neighborhood developments began after 1947 with Meadowbrook and Kent/Janet/Cheryl neighborhoods being two of the first ones.
There were three summer communities at Rock Ridge, Oak Hills and Boonton Lakes.

BTPD Reminds All About Consequences of Impaired Driving
The Boonton Township Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our drivers about the dangers and consequences associated with impaired driving.
Some of the latest nationwide data indicates that motor vehicle fatalities recently increased to a 12-year high, resulting in 38,680 deaths. This number represents a six percent increase from the prior year. In 2021, the State of New Jersey recorded 697 traffic fatalities, which represented a twenty one percent increase from the prior year.
One of the most alarming facts was that impairment from drugs or alcohol was responsible for 17.9 percent of those fatalities. Please understand the dangers of impaired driving, and continue to take all necessary and appropriate steps to remain safe behind the wheel!
