Each week we will include a fun fact or historic tidbit about our great hometown
1947 USGS Map
In 1947 there were more cows at our three dairy farms (Wayside, Lone Oak and Valley Farms) than residents in the Township. Our three industries (RFL, Aircraft Radio and Johanson Manufacturing) played a role in the successful war effort.
Much of today's infrastructure didn't exist but our main thoroughfares, Boonton-Butler Rd (Powerville), Rockaway Valley, Valley, Oak, North Main, Boonton Ave, Powerville (Old Denville), Kingsland, Meriden (Farber Hill), Split Rock and Guinea Hill (Hillcrest) were established but only a few were paved. Not until the 1950s did these roads get tar and chip paving.
Some of the neighborhood developments began after 1947 with Meadowbrook and Kent/Janet neighborhoods being two of the first ones. There were two summer communities at Rock Ridge and Boonton Lakes.

A Message From the Boonton Township Police Department
BTPD Urges Residents to Drive Safely During "National Distracted Driving Awareness Month"
The month of April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. During this month, the Boonton Township Police Department along with numerous other law enforcement agencies throughout the State participate in the "U Drive. U Text. U Pay." distracted driving enforcement campaign. This campaign aims to address one of the most urgent and dangerous driver behaviors; talking and texting while driving. The Boonton Township Police Department's message to drivers is that your attention should be focused solely on driving and nothing else. Any phone conversation, hand-held or hands-free, can be a dangerous distraction which takes your attention away from the road. Please join us this month and every month and help us make our roadways here in Boonton Township as safe as possible!
