Mosquito Control

There was a recent report of a horse in Morris County which tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, a very rare virus that is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. Horse owners are urged to vaccinate their animals. Vaccinated horses are less likely to become infected with mosquito-borne illnesses.

An abundance of caution is being taken to control the mosquito population through the efforts of the Morris County Mosquito Commission.

All residents are encouraged to take the following steps to assist in the mosquito control efforts and help stop the spread of mosquito-borne viruses such as this and West Nile Virus:

Control Mosquitos inside and outside your home

  • Repair holes in screens.
  • Empty, on a regular basis, items that collect water such as planters, toys and trash containers.
  • Use insect repellent when outdoors.
  • Wear long sleeves and long pants.
